Current Agricultural Use Valuation Updates

Current Agricultural Use Valuation Updates
CAUV Renewal Applications and Compliance Inspections

Mahoning County, OH - Auditor Ralph Meacham is informing taxpayers of recent changes to the Current Agricultural Use Valuation (CAUV) program in Mahoning County.

Under the CAUV program, only land devoted exclusively to agricultural use can qualify to be taxed based on the agricultural use of the land instead of its development potential.

Each January, CAUV renewal applications are sent to all currently enrolled taxpayers. The purpose of this yearly mailing is to confirm that enrolled taxpayers are actively meeting the requirements of the program. Applicants will notice two things about this year's mailing - the application itself has changed and a letter from Auditor Meacham is enclosed. The letter is informing applicants that physical visual compliance inspections of all parcels in the CAUV program will be conducted starting this year.

"In our continued effort to be proactive and fair to all taxpayers of Mahoning County, I have contracted with the Mahoning County Soil and Water Conservation District to perform a physical inspection of each and every parcel currently enrolled in the CAUV program.  The goal of the inspections is to preserve the tax savings for the benefit of those taxpayers who meet the qualifications while at the same time, remove the savings from those who no longer meet the requirements but have failed to notify this office," Auditor Meacham stated.

CAUV values for tax year 2017 will be available through the property search function of the Auditor’s website once taxes are calculated, which should be completed by mid-January.
Taxpayers will also find the Tax Year 2017 CAUV Land Tables Calculation Explanation under the Financial Documents tab on the Auditor's website at that time.

As always, Auditor Meacham encourages taxpayers to call his office with any questions or concerns.
