Mike Sciortino’s extensive experience in county government and diverse educational background prepared him well for his role as Mahoning County Auditor.
Sciortino was elected to his first full term of office in November 2006. Before that, he was Director of the Mahoning County Board of Elections from 1999 to 2005 and Deputy Director from 1996 to 1999. Sciortino was President of Ohio Association of Election Officials and Chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s Standards Board. He has testified before the Ohio House of Representatives, the Ohio Senate, and the United States Election Assistance Commission regarding landmark election legislation.
As Assistant Mahoning County Administrator for the County Commissioners from 1993 to 1996, Sciortino managed personnel and financial matters that included policy implementation concerning hospitalization, employee development, competitive hiring and budget matters.
Sciortino earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Youngstown State University, a master’s degree in public administration at The University of Akron and a law degree from The University of Akron School of Law. He has been a licensed attorney since 2003, with an emphasis in civil litigation and business law. He is a member of the Ohio and Mahoning County Bar Associations.
Sciortino is a past president of the Mahoning County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board and holds a life time membership in the Ohio Association of Election officials.
Mike presently serves as 2nd Vice President and Executive Board Member for the Ohio County Auditors Association and Vice President for the North East Ohio County Auditors group. Sciortino is on the Board of Trustees for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County and is Secretary and Administrator of the County’s Information & Technology Department. He is a member of Ohio Government Finance Officers Association, the Mahoning County Tax Incentive Review Council, Records Commission and Microfilm Boards.
Sciortino is a proud member of the Austintown, Ohio Rotary, and currently resides in Austintown with his wife Karen and three wonderful children Kaitlyn -8, Vincent -6, and little Mike -5.
