The Hope House Visitation Center provides a child-friendly environment for supervised visitation, custodial/non-custodial exchanges, education, and mediation purposes relevant to the development of healthy parent-child relationships. Judge Smith was one of the co-founders of Hope House and remains a strong supporter of its mission and programs.
Referrals to Hope House
Families may be referred to Hope House by the Domestic Relations and Juvenile Courts, Mahoning County Children Services, Attorneys or a referring agency. When the parties contact Hope House, the staff will schedule an orientation. The parties will learn what Hope House is all about, complete the required forms, take a tour, and work out a mutually beneficial visitation schedule for all parties involved. Visits are calculated on a sliding fee scale and exchanges are a set fee per exchange. An exchange equals one drop-off and one pick-up.
Then, the hours of Hope House vary to accommodate the family's needs and the availability of staff. The general hours of Hope House are:

Hope House is a secure facility with buzzer entry. There is a Sheriff's Deputy on the premises during exchanges and visits. The main concern is the safety and comfort of all who enter.
Services provided at Hope House Visitation Center are supportive and educational
· Visitation supervised in a neutral non-threatening environment
· Extended hours allow for visits without interrupting work or school schedules
· Supervised children's drop-off and pick-up site for exchanges between parents
· Mediation provided for managing conflict in custody and visitation disputes
· Instruction offered in parenting and homemaking skills in a homelike setting
Requirements for supervised visitation or exchanges are as follows
Complete a "Needs Assessment Form."
After the referring party is contacted for additional information, parents will meet with the staff of Hope House for evaluation of services needed.
If determined that the family can be served, the child or children and the parents must complete an orientation at Hope House Visitation Center.

The Staff
The staff of the Hope House Visitation Center includes a Director, Office Manager, Case Workers, Interns from Youngstown State University, Volunteers and Security. The staff is trained to monitor and appropriately intervene during visits or exchanges, and to educate and mediate. Their primary care is the safety and confidentiality of everyone using the Visitation Center.
