Dear Mahoning County Local Government Officials:

 

Each year about this time, the Ohio Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention announces their following-year grant opportunities (2012). There are four separate types of grants that townships, cities, and villages may consider making application for, and some do require cash matches while others don’t. Please go to the website for the four grant booklets to get specifics on each opportunity.

Litter Cleanup Grant: no required cash match, up to $2,000.00 for supplies, signs, and advertising. Cleanups must occur between March 1 and May 31, 2012 and be on public, not private property. DUE NOV. 18, 2011.

 

Community Development Grant: objective is to develop the infrastructure for collecting and processing specific materials listed in the packet. Required 50% cash match, varying amounts depending on program desired, limitations on types of activities and allowable expenditures.
 

Market Development Grant: objective is to partner with a private company entitled a cooperating enterprise to develop infrastructure to process specific materials as listed. Required 100% cash match, varying amounts depending on program desired, limits on allowable costs.

Scrap Tire Grant: objective is to strengthen Ohio markets for unwanted tires to be recycled. Four separate grants possible, some with required matches. Applicable to local governments are the Tire Amnesty Projects for special tire collection and recycling activities – no match; and Civil Engineering or Paving Projects using recycled-content rubber from unwanted Ohio tires – requires match.
