Mission Statement:
The Mahoning County Solid Waste Management District – Green Team, provides cost-effective and environmentally-sound waste reduction and litter prevention programs that benefit residents, businesses, and industries in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of all Mahoning County residents.
What We Do:
The Green Team is the Mahoning County Commissioners’ Reuse and Recycling Division. We are one of the 52 solid waste districts created by the Ohio General Assembly in 1989. Each district was established with the mission of reducing reliance on landfills. This is accomplished by developing an integrated solid waste management system that is implemented in an environmentally sound, technically feasible, cost effective and publicly acceptable manner. Since its inception, the Green Team has become the vehicle for recycling and reuse programs within Mahoning County.
In addition to commonly recycled items, the District provides channels for yard waste composting, tire and electronic recycling, and household hazardous waste disposal. The District also helps educate the public and provide solutions in these important areas through environmental workshops, public displays and presentations.
The Green Team is attempting to eliminate litter problems and blight utilizing law enforcement and educational tools. We encourage residents to participate in this county wide clean up and report acts of littering and illegal dumping. A wide variety of media marketing tools are used to extend our message. Litter collection crews are also employed to help keep Mahoning County clean.
