More Materials Accepted for Recycling
Thursday, April 3, 2008
Announced today, the Green Team, will begin accepting more material for recycling at the curb and drop off locations. New materials now being accepted in the curbside collection include plastic bags, plastic ware such eating utensils, junk mail, shredded paper, tissue/wrapping paper, and greeting cards.
Jim Petuch, Director of the Green Team, says that the expanded materials bring plastics 1-7 into the list of items that will be recycled. This is possible because Allied Waste, the company that collects curbside materials and currently holds the drop off agreement, agreed to expand the collection to help increase recycling rates in Mahoning County. Brent Bowker, General Manager of Allied Waste, announced this expansion at the Mahoning County Commissioners Board meeting today.
The Green Team reminds residents that they may contact the Recycling Division for more information on the expanded materials being taken at the curb and drop off recycling centers at (330) 740-2060.
