Litter Control

In addition to its efforts to promote recycling, The Green Team also works to protect the environment from the damaging effects of litter.

Under Ohio Law, those convicted of littering offenses face mandatory fines and, in some cases, jail time. Littering solid waste – even cigarette butts, and dumping on property that is not designated as a licensed landfill – are illegal acts. Having an unsecured load where debris can cause litter – is also illegal. Now – there are litter and illegal dumping law enforcement deputies who will cite violators. Fines and penalties vary according to the severity of the act – jail time is an option for serious violators! Learn more here.

If anyone witnesses an act of littering, get the relevant information such as license plate numbers, and call the Green Team – 330-740-2060. The deputies will investigate the incident and follow-up with appropriate action.

Mahoning County businesses and civic organizations can become involved in litter clean-up efforts through The Green Team's Adopt-a-Spot program.

Let’s make Mahoning County cleaner, safer, healthier – and litter free!
