25% State Recycling Mandate

Mahoning County is making great strides toward reaching the state mandated goal of 25% residential/commercial recycling. During 2005 we recorded a 14.78% recycling rate with over 41,000 tons of material collected and recycled or composted. Although still below the state goal, it demonstrates tremendous growth. This translates to a 33% increase over 2004 and a 5% gain in our overall recycling rate. Given our current state of growth it would seem feasible that Mahoning County will reach our goal in 2008.

2006 Should put forward even more growth. The Mahoning County Commissioners have added over ten (10) new recycling centers and increased the materials accepted for curbside recycling. Additionally, partnerships with business have generated overwhelming support for our Office Paper Recycling program. There are currently over 200 companies participating in this program with more joining weekly.

The Mahoning County Commissioners’ Reuse and Recycling Division - Green Team would like to extend our thanks to everyone involved in keeping Mahoning County “clean and green”. With your continued support we can preserve our precious natural resources and reach the state mandated recycling goal.

Thank you for Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling!
