Projects and Plans
Current Projects:
Addition of nine new community recycling drop-off sites.
Planned Projects:
County wide re:Create program to create staging areas so that citizens may bring non-hazardous, reusable items for charities to take and reuse – causing a diversion from the solid waste stream.
Materials Exchange Program whereby participants can list as available or wanted any surplus inventory that may result from overproduction, production waste or surplus stock for exchange.
The District intends to conduct an eight week leaf collection for every urban municipality within the county. The timetable for deployment will add one or two municipalities per year compounded to the previous year’s additions.
Short Term and Long Term Plans:
The District’s Solid Waste Management Plan Update was ratified and approved recently, thus the strategies listed will be implemented so that the District may reach the State of Ohio mandated recycling goals of 25% Residential/Commercial and 66% Industrial recycling. The Plan will take the District through 2022.
New Services:
Mahoning County intends to open nine (9) new drop off locations to make it more convenient for residents to recycle.
An expanded office paper program was established to reach out to the business sector. The District provides technical assistance and personnel that collect most paper publications for free.
2007 also marks the most electronic and tire drives ever conducted in one calendar year.
