Departmental Functions Include Some of the Following:

 

We provide service to over 40,000 households and businesses.

Total volume of wastewater treated in 2004 was approx. 8 billion gallons.     

 

In addition to providing Sanitary service and sanitary sewer permits we also provide
drinking water for almost 930 customers in Lake Milton, Craig Beach and Jackson Twp.

In 2004 the volume of water sold was 80 million gallons.

 

The Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer is responsible for the transport and treatment of wastewater generated by customers in the unincorporated areas of Mahoning County. This includes the following townships: Austintown, Beaver, Boardman, Coitsville, Canfield, Jackson, Milton, Poland, township and village, and Springfield. Service is provided to the villages of Craig Beach, New Middletown and the City Of Campbell.

 

The Sanitary Engineering Department presently operates five (5) major treatment facilities in Boardman Township, Craig Beach Village, Springfield Township, City of Campbell and the Meander Treatment plant in Weathersfield Township (Trumbull County).   The system transporting the waste water includes 830 miles of sanitary sewer in many different sizes. Additionally, the department operates and maintains 56 pumping stations throughout the service area.

The treatment plant requires 24 hour, 7 days a week maintenance. Personnel are continuously performing upkeep on motors, pumps, and basins holding the wastewater. Additionally, they give careful attention to insuring the proper introduction of chemicals to the treatment process to meet federal, state, and local laws for wastewater treatment. This is to achieve the utmost quality of water for the citizens of Mahoning County.

 

With such diverse responsibilities, the Sanitary Engineering Department personnel includes the Sanitary Engineer, Administrators, chemists and laboratory technicians, certified wastewater operators, engineering technicians, drafting technicians, account clerks, and skilled maintenance workers.

 

These employees help serve more than 40,000 customers   The Sanitary Engineer generates revenue through a user charge system, so there is no funding received from the general fund of the County.

 

We provide treatment of Wastewater and maintain the Sanitary sewers for the Unincorporated areas of Mahoning County such as Boardman Twp, Austintown, Milton Twp and Poland Twp. We also provide Wastewater treatment for the City of Campbell, Poland Village, Craig Beach Village, and New Middletown Village. We have agreements to provide Waste Water Treatment for the City of Canfield and portions of Mineral Ridge in Trumbull County.
