Announce the availability of the following grant opportunities for Mahoning County cities, townships, villages, school districts, and private businesses.
District Grant Opportunity: 2008 Recycling Initiative/Competitive Funding
Eligible Entities Include: Mahoning County townships, villages, and cities; schools; public parks; and non-profit agencies (can not possess a liquor license).
Submission Deadline: Jan. 15, 2008
Projects – Must be a recycling or solid waste diversion project. Two types of grants: Mini – up to $950.00 with NO cash match, Comprehensive – very competitive and up to $7,000.00 with a 20% match. Download application packet at:

Litter Clean-up Grant
Eligible Entities Include: Municipal corporations, townships, villages, and Keep America Beautiful designated communities.
Submission Deadline: January 4, 2008
Projects – 2008 Litter clean-up activities between April 1 – May 31, 2008.
May apply for $200.00 to $2,500.00 with NO cash match.
Scrap Tire Grant
The Solid Waste District can apply on behalf of eligible Cooperating Enterprises (private businesses or industries) based in Mahoning County. Purpose – to establish or expand private manufacturing facilities that utilize scrap tire material, or foster market development research.
NOTE: The Cooperating Enterprise must supply a dollar-for-dollar cash match.
Amounts available depend upon the number of tires recycled. Max. - $350,000.00.
Deadline to contact Jim Petuch regarding drafting the grant application: December 15, 2007. Grant application due to ODNR – February 1, 2008. The Cooperating Enterprise must demonstrate proof of the ability to supply the required cash match, which could include a letter from an accredited lending institution or agency verifying approval.
NOTE: Municipal corporations, townships, state universities, and park districts may apply for PAVING PROJECTS – requires a 100% cash match. – max. is $150,000.00. Contact Matt Dummitt, ODNR – 614-265-7003.
Market Development Grant
The Solid Waste District can apply on behalf of eligible Cooperating Enterprises (private businesses or industries) based in Mahoning County. The purpose is to expand recycling markets. NOTE: The Cooperating Enterprise must supply a dollar-for-dollar cash match. Amount available is $250,000.00 per project, and the District may make multiple submissions, but only one submission per Cooperating Enterprise. Target materials: carpet and padding, construction and demolition debris, electronics, glass, office paper, cardboard, newspaper, organic materials, and plastics.
