"The mission of the Auditor’s Office is to serve the taxpayers of Mahoning County fairly, efficiently and with respect through educated employees, modern technology and by remembering that taxpayers are the most important people to this office, either in person or otherwise and the purpose of our work."
The Auditor serves as the county's chief fiscal officer, chief assessor, and sealer of weights and measures. As fiscal officer, the auditor is responsible for maintaining county financial records, issuing warrants (checks) for payment of county obligations and preparing the County’s Annual Financial Report (CAFR). As assessor, the auditor determines property values for taxing purposes and transferring real property deeds. And, as sealer of weights and measures, the auditor tests and certifies the accuracy of various commercial measuring devices.

On any given day, every American makes dozens of purchase decisions—at the grocery store and the gas pump, to pay a taxi fare, or feed a parking meter, or to purchase a gallon of home heating oil. Mahoning County’s Auditor is the Sealer of Weights and Measures, thus protecting the public from possible loss that may occur from faulty measuring devices.
