Taxpayers Can Appeal Property Values through March 31
Mahoning County, OH – Auditor Ralph T. Meacham is reminding taxpayers that they can file a Complaint Against the Valuation of Real Property if they disagree with the fair market value the Auditor has placed on their property for tax year 2022. Filing this complaint appeals the value placed on a property, not the amount of taxes due on a property.
When a taxpayer files a complaint, a hearing may be scheduled. This hearing gives taxpayers an opportunity to present evidence to the Board of Revision in support of their opinion of value.
According to Auditor Meacham, supporting evidence can include settlement statements, purchase agreements and fee appraisals. Such evidence can expedite the appeal process.
“While property taxes cannot be disputed, it is a taxpayer’s right to review and appeal their property value. I encourage taxpayers to visit our website for more detailed information regarding the appeal process, and as always, taxpayers can call my office with any questions,” Auditor Meacham stated.
The Complaint Against the Valuation of Real Property packet can be found on the Board of Revision page on the Auditor’s website or taxpayers can call Auditor Meacham’s office at 330-740-2010 to request a form be mailed to them.
These complaints must be filed and received in the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office on or before the close of business on March 31, 2023.
